Achieving the best organic ranking in Google involves implementing a comprehensive SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy that focuses on optimizing various aspects of your website to improve its visibility and relevance in search engine results, according to ChatGPT.

Here are some essential steps it recommends to help you achieve the best organic ranking in Google:

1. Keyword Research:

  • Identify relevant keywords related to your content, products, or services. Use keyword research tools to find keywords with high search volume and moderate competition.
  • Comment: If you are in business a while, you should have these keywords on the tip of your tongue. I often find that by browsing your competitors’ websites, you can learn from their experience. Focus on the 10-15 words that best describe your sector, and what you offer.

2. On-Page SEO Optimization:

  • Optimize on-page elements such as title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and URL structures. Incorporate target keywords naturally into your content while ensuring readability and relevance.
  • Comment: You will probably need to involve your web designer, or a competent Internet Marketing person in this. They tend to be involved in this activity all the time, so will have an intuitive feel for what works well.

3. High-Quality Content:

  • Create high-quality, valuable, and engaging content that addresses the needs and interests of your target audience. Aim for comprehensive, well-researched, and original content that provides unique insights or solutions.
  • Comment: You can, of course, use AI to create content, but as this is also available to your competitors, the better way is to write your own content. I met a Solicitor yesterday who said he had 1200 pages of legal content, added to his website over a number of years, and, sure enough, his website is very highly ranked. For those businesses starting out with a new website, get a Blog going, make sure it’s SEO’d properly and post monthly or more frequently. If you do that, within a year or two you should pass most of your competitors out in the rankings.

4. Mobile Optimization:

  • Ensure your website is mobile-friendly and provides a seamless user experience across different devices. Google prioritizes mobile-first indexing, so mobile optimization is crucial for organic ranking.
  • Comment: WordPress ensures your website is “mobile friendly” out of the box! However, check every page on your mobile, to ensure that the experience is as good as you can make it. Most WordPress themes (I use Avada as my preferred theme) allow you to configure the page content to be visible on widescreen  / tablet / mobile, as required.

5. Page Loading Speed:

  • Optimize your website’s loading speed to improve user experience and search engine rankings. Compress images, enable browser caching, and minimize server response time to reduce page load times.
  • Comment: These are things that your web designer / hosting company needs to look after. However, many website owners do upload their own new content, including new images, so ensuring appropriate image file sizes will be important. Use the JPG file format, where possible, as GIFs and PNGs are generally much larger file sizes and can slow down page speeds.

6. Secure Connection (HTTPS):

  • Secure your website with an SSL certificate to establish a secure connection (HTTPS). Google considers HTTPS as a ranking signal and prioritizes secure websites in search results.
  • Comment: This is important, as Google will actively dissuade visitors to any website that has no SSL certificate fitted. Your web designer / digital marketing agency will help you with this. Once fitted, you shouldn’t have to concern yourself with this again.

7. Quality Backlinks:

  • Build high-quality backlinks from reputable and authoritative websites in your industry or niche. Focus on earning natural backlinks through content marketing, guest blogging, and relationship building.
  • Comment: Easy to recommend, but very challenging to achieve. Best use your LinkedIn profile and Company page to put these links back to your website. Include them throughout your social media posts.

8. Internal Linking:

  • Implement internal linking to connect related pages and distribute link equity throughout your website. Use descriptive anchor text and strategically link to relevant pages to improve site structure and navigation.
  • Comment: When you are doing Blog Posts, remember to include links to selected internal pages on your website. Use the link icon in the toolbar at the top of the page editing box and select the page that you want to link to. Once you have done this a few times, it will become second nature.

9. Patience and Persistence:

  • Achieving the best organic ranking in Google is a long-term process that requires patience and persistence. SEO results take time to materialize, so continue to refine your strategies, monitor progress, and adapt to changes in search engine algorithms.
  • Comment: Do a little, regularly. Don’t expect quick results. But do check your ranking status on a regular basis and by looking at / analysing other Google results, you should develop a feeling for what is working, and what isn’t. Remember that referrals from Google are only one source of business leads – work also on your social media presence, and word-of-mouth networks, if you are active in that area. e.g. Business over Breakfast.

By implementing these SEO strategies and best practices consistently, you can improve your website’s organic ranking in Google and increase its visibility, traffic, and relevance to your target audience over time!
